Forum Spam

Postby eleanor_rigby » Wed May 06, 2009 11:32 am

It seems there have been some bits of forum spam of late - its not too nice and I think it sets a bad atmosphere around the forum. Who ever Punk1212 is seems to be the culprit - maybe a bit more attention should be given to moderation of these forums?
Just a thought, I'm sure we all want to keep this place a nice and approachable forum and free of random spam about World of Warcraft!

Spam is rife in all forums, it's impossible to keep totally clean of it - I don't believe the 'little' spam we have here 'sets a bad atmosphere' though. The checks I have put in place take care of the majority of it plus there are 'report this post' links on each post - however NO ONE has ever used them! So I take it it's either not an issue or easier to leave it to the 'moderator' to deal with.

I also regularly 'cleanse' the spam membership accounts, most of them, if not all of them are simple automated harvester signups and are deleted.

To date, we have over 1000 genuine accounts with 'real' people benefiting from this site. A lot of hard work is done by many here, and I am sure that it is well appreciated by most. :)

OK Tony - no worries, I think I might've come across as a bit blunt in my post but I don't for one minute that you're not doing your job!

I understand the point you are making :) It's good that you care enough for the community here, and feel it's worth it, so do I :D

'Guilty as charged!'

Sorry Tony, I have never noticed the 'Report This Link' before so as you are aware I have contacted you directly with 'spam' issues for which I apologise.

I, along with many others believe you do a fantastic job with the site. Having dabbled in web design a few years ago I know just how complex designing, setting up and maintaining a web site can be, so on behalf of all members:-

THANK YOU! :D

Just bringing this back up - SPAM is very active on the net at the moment across ALL sites - so expect more of the same here in the forums. I am clearing it out as an when I get to it (several times a day) so please bare with it. Please continue to report it using the 'exclamation mark' in a triangle that appears on each post - it notifies me that spam has appeared.

Thanks Tony for doing such a great job. Thanks especially for getting the porn posting off the board. Bloody perverts.
As Tony said, use the ! ! Let's all work together to keep the board clean.
