CAH SUPPORT GROUP CONFERENCE – SUNDAY 19TH MAY 2013 BRISTOL

Postby tony » Tue Mar 12, 2013 5:29 pm

The Group are pleased to announce that our next conference will be at:
The Holiday Inn,
Filton Road,
Bristol,
Avon.
BS16 1QX.

We have a good mix of talks planned for the conference from the specialists listed below:

Dr Liz Crowne - Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist (Bristol)
Dr Nils Krone - Consultant Paediatric/Adolescent Endocrinologist (Birmingham)
Dr Gerard Conway – Consultant Adult Endocrinologist (London)
Ms Naomi Crouch - Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist (Bristol)
Dr Lih-Mei Liao – Consultant Psychologist (London)
Dr Tove Lundberg – Clinical Psychologist & Researcher (University of Oslo, Norway)

We also hope to have some breakout sessions, for socialising and learning from each other, for both adults and parents. We are planning to provide something for everyone and an enjoyable day for all!

We will be holding our AGM at 6pm on the night before the event (Saturday 18th May) at the hotel and members will receive an invitation to attend this too with the next newsletter (April 2013 edition). After this (from 7pm onwards) we are planning an informal social evening, which we will hold in the Hotel bar. If you are staying overnight or live in the vicinity and fancy a night out, please join us!

The conference is subsidised by the group and those paying an annual membership subscription will benefit from reduced price tickets. Whether you are a member or not though, everyone with an interest in CAH is welcome. We hope to see you there!

Are any of the events going to be taped so that people could have access to them online if they are unable to attend the actual conference?

Although we do record our conferences, we find the tapes aren't all that easy to decipher and it therefore wouldn't be possible to put these on line. We do however take notes, which are sent to all members and will eventually be available on this website.

Hi, it's a family conference and the majority of attendees do tend to be parents at these events, although in recent years more adults with the condition are attending too, which has been nice to see. It would probably be a bit boring for young children to sit through as we are unable to organise a creche. We will have talks from paediatric endocrinologists as well as an adult endocrinologist and a psychologist.
Unfortunately we may not have a sugery talk now, as Naomi Crouch is not able to attend and I don't think I can get a replacement at this short a notice.

I am also hoping for audience participation too, so if anyone reading this would like to consider sharing: "my experience of CAH" with us, whether you are a parent, someone with the condition, a brother, a sister, grandparent etc, please let me know and I can give you a slot. You may not become famous but I think that as much as we learn from the specialists, we can all learn from each other too and will enjoy hearing other 'real life stories' . It doesn't have to be long, a 5-10 minute slot, whatever you like, I am sure we will all value your views and will be able to relate to your experiences. There are often parallels and it is reassuring to know you are not alone!

Registration starts at 9.30 (coffee, pastries etc) and the talks start at 10am. The conference is scheduled to finish at 4pm. Hope to see you there! :D

Hi
I am interested in coming to the conference, but just wandered if you know of many parents going with 18 - 25 year old boys as I would be very interested to meet and chat with them?

I am just finalising details for next weeks conference! We have a varied agenda planned and looking at the bookings, I am delighted to note that we have a great bunch of people coming - some who will be attending a conference for the first time (with relatively new babies) and others who were present at the first meeting we held in 1991 (over 20 years ago!) who are our regulars. I look forward to seeing you all there. :D

I need to give final numbers to the hotel on Monday, so if there is anyone who would still like to book a place, please contact before then, as we can still accommodate a few more.
