what does it mean when a subject is locked and why would it be locked?

A thread will be locked if it's a duplicate i.e. two about the same thing. It happens (like yourself) where you don't know where you posted, so you start a new one.

As part of my role, I will move threads around, trying to keep the forums as organised as possible.

If you loose a post, you can always use the links in the SUPPORT FORUMS/SEARCH menu in the navigation at the top - they are:

MY POSTS
UNANSWERED POSTS
POSTS SINCE LAST VISIT

I will also LOCK posts if it's best that no one continues to discuss an issue - this normally happens if a disagreement starts and the topic gets swamped - I will always have the final say ;)

I also MOVE threads if they are posted in the wrong forum.
